The International Congress on Membranes and Membrane Processes (ICOM) is the joint flagship conference of the European Membrane Society (EMS), North American Membrane Society (NAMS), and Aseanian Membrane Society (AMS). Supported by these societies, ICOM aims to bring together “membranologists” from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss all aspects of membrane research and applications in a vibrant and dynamic setting.

In 2029, EMS will host ICOM in Europe. Therefore, this Call for Applications has been launched to identify the organizer for the ICOM 2029 conference.

The application to the EMS Council should specify:

* Description of the facilities for the event and proposed dates;

* The risk assessment that shall include the format of the conference (in person, online, or hybrid) and the policy of fee cancellation;

* Tentative program including contents and timing;

* Organizing committee involving at least one of the EMS Council members;

* Scientific committee containing all EMS Council members;

* Budget outline, including any request for EMS funding or loan, a list of sponsors, and a break-even number. Any outsourcing of organizational work should be included in the budget. Any EMS loan received would be expected to be returned as the first call on excess income over expenses. Additional extra income is to be split evenly between EMS and the organizers. The EMS will not cover losses beyond the EMS funding or loan.

* All rights and duties will be formalized in a contract with the EMS.

The condition for granting the organization of the conference is to fulfill the requirement that the chair of the ICOM2029 conference will be an academic entity. Private companies can participate in the organization to help and support.

The deadline for receiving proposals for the ICOM 2029 conference is November 30, 2025. The organizers are expected to comply with the  EMS guidelines outlined in the attached document, as approved by the EMS Council. The selected host will be announced during the closing ceremony of the ICOM 2026 conference, which will take place in San Antonio, Texas, USA, from July 18 to 25, 2026.
