Lund University invites applications for two PhD positions focused on membrane processes in food applications.

These positions are based at the Department of Process and Life Science Engineering (PLE), located at Kemicentrum, one of the largest chemistry research hubs in the Nordic region. PLE comprises approximately 150 staff members, including 65 PhD students, and offers broad expertise in chemical engineering, food technology, biotechnology, and microbiology. The department promotes a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-conscious work environment with a strong emphasis on communication.

Successful candidates will join the Membrane Group, Sweden’s leading research team in membrane technology. The group’s research spans both conventional and emerging membrane processes—such as reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, electrodialysis, and membrane distillation—with a particular focus on sustainable applications in water, food, and energy.

These PhD positions are part of the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Networks 2024 project: UP2MEM – Materials UP-cycling TO fabricate advanced MEMbrane technologies for water and food industries, aiming for zero waste and a circular economy. UP2MEM is a large international consortium involving 11 degree-awarding universities, 1 national research centre, and 13 companies.
