PhD position – Ion Exchange Membranes for CO2 Electrolysis, KU Leuven, Belgium and Melbourne, Australia (Joint PhD Program)

One Joint PhD project, fully funded by the Melbourn-Leuven Joint PhD program, is now open for applications. The candidate will be primarily based at the KU Leuven with secondment at the University of Melbourne.

Despite being an attractive concept, the performance of CO2 reduction and conversion reactions via electrochemical process (e.g. electrolysis) is still facing critical challenges that prevent its practical implementation. We seek highly motivated PhD researchers to join our interdisciplinary research team to develop a new class of ion exchange membranes tailored for MEA (membrane electrolysis assembly) applications for CO2 reduction, enhancing the process performance and energy efficiency.

The supervisory team involves Prof. Xing Yang (KU Leuven, Department of Chemical Engineering), Prof. Ivo Vankelecom (KU Leuven, Department of Bio-Science Engineering), Dr. George Chen and Dr. Mengran (Aaron) Li from the University of Melbourne (Department of Chemical Engineering).
