Location: University of Edinburgh UKPosition: Research position

Research Associate Position

Applications are invited for a researcher position in the group of Dr García-García in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. The details of the group are at https://www.eng.ed.ac.uk/about/people/dr-francisco-r-garcia-garcia

The opportunity:

The successful candidate will develop a pioneering technology for hydrogen purification as part of the blue hydrogen production process: The Hollow Fibre-based Adsorption System. The project brings together two research groups with expertise in porous materials design, synthesis and characterisation (Immaterial Ltd), and hollow fibre-based reactors design and reaction engineering (Dr García-García, University of Edinburgh) with the participation of an advisory board (Sasol Performance Chemicals, Ricardo plc and Repsol S.A.) offering expertise in ceramic materials, environmental legislation and energy production. The synergy resulting from this collaboration allows innovation in material design/optimisation with process intensification directed at sustainable hydrogen production. During this project the ideal candidate will enjoy a stimulating working environment within the recently opened £1.5M Catalysis Design Laboratory at the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. The laboratory is highly multidisciplinary with focus on fundamental science on material synthesis and characterization but also on reaction engineering aspects on reactor design and scale-up.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  1. Experience in using non-solvent-induced phase inversion to fabricate polymeric/ceramic hollow fibre membranes.
  2. Experience in the characterisation of polymeric/ceramic hollow fibre membranes.
  3. Strong interest in solving challenging problems marked by success in previous roles.
  4. Proficient in written and spoken English.
  5. Excellence in planning and time management skills.
  6. Prior experience in reaction engineering aspects on reactor design and scale-up would be a bonus.
