Call for organizing EUROMEMBRANE 2027

The European Membrane Society (EMS) is keen on supporting scientific or technical events related to membranes and membrane processes. One of the flagships of the Society is the EUROMEMBRANE Conference. Supported by the EMS, the EUROMEMBRANE conference aims to bring together European “membranologists” and other colleagues from overseas to discuss all aspects of research and applications of membrane and membrane processes in a vibrant and dynamic setting.

Therefore, EMS launched the Call for applications to organize the EUROMEMBRANE 2027 conference.

Guide for Applicants and Organizers - EMS Conferences

A short Guide for Applicants for organising an EMS event has been published: Guide Version 2027

This short Guide for Applicants summarizes the principal points that should be mentioned in the application to organize an EMS event. Following it helps prepare the proposal to save time and check that you have considered all relevant aspects to make your proposal and the event successful. This Guide is divided into parts - Part I explains aspects that should be addressed in the application. Part II describes issues expected to follow up on and regularly inform the EMS Council about your successful application. Before preparing your application, it is recommended to read the information presented in Part II to help make the proposal complete and acceptable.

Postdoc Development of Membrane Based Separation Processes for Liquid Streams, MESCH team at VITO, Mol, Belgium

Postdoc Development of Membrane Based Separation Processes for Liquid Streams

Job description
The MESCH team at VITO develops industrially viable membrane processes for the intensification of chemical processes in industry.
Our approach allows companies to de-risk their developments by demonstration of relevant and economically viable membrane-based separation processes.

Membranes and membrane processes are of great value in the transition towards a more sustainable chemical industry, because of their broad application area, their low energy consumption, and their usefulness in continuous chemical processes at every scale. To strengthen our team of researchers and technicians (now about 25 people) we are looking for a new colleague for the execution of projects on membrane based liquid separations.

For this we opened a post-doc position for a 1+2-year contract.

This is our plan for you:

Together with our team, you will support the execution and follow-up of projects on membrane-based separation processes for the chemical industry.
Based on the basic workplans, you will plan, execute, supervise and coordinate membrane tests, by designing experiments, execute these together with our technicians and do the analysis of the various test results. Reporting of the results to customers or partners is a part of the job as well.

Job requirements
To be suitable for this job, we think you will need:
a PhD in organic chemistry or in chemical oriented engineering
ideally, an applied knowledge of membrane separation processes of liquid streams.
enthusiasm about both experimental lab work as well about processing of data and reporting
team player skills
a strong interest in cooperation with other partners (industry, SME’s, institutes, universities)
a good knowledge of English, both written and spoken

Apart from the job content we offer you:

A team of nice colleagues, experts in their fields, who will guide, support and interact with you
A front-row seat to witness the development of technical solutions for a sustainable world
Access to state-of-art equipment for membrane processes
Interesting opportunities to interact with partners in industry and academia
A competitive salary package

PhD studentship in Sustainable Manufacturing of Membranes, Bath University, UK

Title: PhD studentship in Sustainable Manufacturing of Membranes

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath is inviting applications for the following fully funded PhD project on ‘Sustainable Manufacturing of Membranes’.

Chemical separations are critical to many aspects of our daily lives, from the energy we use and the water we drink, to the medications we take. Separations consume 10-15% of the total energy used in the world, and high selectivity membranes could make these separations 10x more energy efficient. However, most membranes are still prepared using polymers derived from fossil-fuels and toxic solvents.

In this PhD project you will be pioneering the use of green solvents and biopolymers to prepare highly selective membranes for liquid separations. You will be part of a diverse research team, with extensive support in terms of materials synthesis and characterisation and membrane testing, including a brand-new membrane testing lab with a full-time technician to support students and researchers. This PhD studentship is provided by the University of Bath as part of a £9Mn EPSRC-funded SynHiSel programme grant linking leading membrane researchers across the UK at six universities (Bath, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London). You can find more information about SynHiSel at http://www.synhisel.com. SynHiSel encourages the development of collaborative projects among partners, including financial support to visit participating universities.

Eligibility: Due to funding limitations, this position is available only to UK or Irish National and EU citizens with (Pre-)Settled status in the UK, or another form of indefinite leave.
