The Department of Chemistry is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within the project focused on synthesis of polymeric materials for developing Superhydrophobic hollow fiber membranes. The postdoctoral project involves the synthesis of polymer and the fabrication of hollow fiber membranes. The scholarship is full-time for two years with access by mutual agreement. Project description

Our research group strives to design and synthesize innovative materials that will shape the future of separation science. In this particular project, we are planning to synthesize polymeric materials to develop superhydrophobic membranes. The target membranes will be prepared in a hollow fiber configuration on a large scale with the potential of being patented and becoming commercial products. The project offers you the opportunity to actively participate in the design and synthesis of polymers, flat sheet, and hollow fiber membranes (single-layer/dual-layer) and develop your skills in membrane applications.

The stipend is tax-free and is financed by WISE-UmU via a generous research grant from Kempe Foundations. The amount is 350 000SEK/year.


To qualify as a postdoctoral scholarship holder, the postdoctoral fellow is required to have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time of the decision about the scholarship recipient.

Priority should be given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree, according to what is stipulated in the paragraph above, no later than three years prior. If there are special reasons, candidates who completed their doctoral degree prior to that may also be eligible. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade union organizations, military service, or similar circumstances, as well as clinical practice or other forms of appointment/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Doctoral degree should be within the field of polymer chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent.

Additional requirement is a solid scientific background in synthesizing polymers and characterizing the prepared polymers is required.

Meriting criteria are:
A documented good ability to conduct research and present it in writing in the form of scientific publications in expert-reviewed journals. A desire to conduct research in a multidisciplinary project and in an environment that promotes collaboration between people with different skills.

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated. It is important that you are creative and have the ability and interest to co-operate with other team members. It is required that you have excellent oral and written knowledge of English.
